About us

Five decades of extraction and isolation.

Mr. R.C. Nayar, founder of Namiex Chemicals
Mr. R.C. Nayar — founder

The company was started by Mr. R.C. Nayar in 1974. He was a very dynamic entrepreneur involved in many different businesses — slate quarrying, a cinema hall, and forest lessee.

In the nineteen seventies he saw a lot of Dioscorea herbs being exported from Chamba, his home district. Following the trial, he found out that it is used for making Diosgenin, a raw material for all steroids. Further pursuing the matter, he set up a unit for manufacturing diosgenin — and thus this company was born.

Namiex was incorporated in 1974 as Nayars Mineral Exports, supplying Diosgenin to Ciba-Geigy — now Novartis — along with Wyeth Lab and Infar (Organon).

The present management took over in 1989 and renamed the company Namiex Chemicals Private Limited, narrowing the focus to extraction, isolation and purification of therapeutic phytochemicals. The plant sits in the lap of the Shivalik hills, placed there to tap Himalayan raw material.

Since 1995 the company has held a license from the Government of Himachal Pradesh to collect cedar wood stumps, from which our cedarwood oil, resin, chips and powder are produced.

Berberine Tannate the slow-release salt CAS 2086-83-1†

A tannate complex of the parent alkaloid rather than a single defined salt — suppliers do not assign the complex itself a distinct CAS number. 2086-83-1† is the registry number for berberine, the parent compound. Traditionally used where a slower-release, less bitter berberine is wanted, particularly in gastro-intestinal and veterinary preparations.

Piperine Boosts the bioavailability of co-administered compounds CAS 94-62-2

The pungent alkaloid in black pepper. Piperine doesn’t improve its own absorption — it slows the enzymes and transporters (notably CYP3A4) that clear other compounds from the body, so more of a co-administered active reaches the bloodstream. Best known for its effect on curcumin, whose bioavailability alone is very poor.

Cedrus deodara forest in the Himalayan foothills

Cedarwood · licensed source

We are licensed to collect cedar stumps.

Oil, resin, chips and powder from Cedrus deodara — under a Government of Himachal Pradesh license held without interruption since 1995.

Cedarwood specifications

Cedarwood resin

Distilled in a factory, not burnt in a forest.

Most cedarwood resin on the market is produced in the forest itself, by destructive heating of the wood. Ours is not.

The usual method

Destructive distillation in the open forest — uncontrolled temperature, variable char and smoke, and standing damage to the woodland.

How we do it

Collected stumps, brought to the plant and processed indoors on our own equipment — consistent resin, no forest burning.

Used for its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, in wound-healing and anti-inflammatory preparations, and widely in veterinary practice. Because it is processed indoors from stumps we are licensed to collect, we can hold quality steady across large orders.

This is the one product where our capacity is not the constraint. Cedarwood resin is available in volume, and we would rather sell more of it.

In the plant

One compound at a time, start to finish.

Extraction, isolation and purification are done in-house on our own equipment. The plant is modest and we do not pretend otherwise — it runs one compound at a time, and that is the trade-off we have chosen.

What it buys you is a batch that had someone’s full attention, and a supplier who can tell you exactly what happened to it.

Batches and stock are tracked on an ERP system — the same kind of system a much larger plant would run.

Patent applied

Quality

Verification you can check for yourself.

Analysed before it ships

Assay and purity are established by HPLC at an accredited laboratory, and the batch certificate of analysis is issued with every consignment.

One product at a time

The plant runs a single compound per campaign. It caps what we can ship in a month, and in exchange there is no cross-contamination risk and full attention on the batch in hand.

Licensed raw material

Cedar wood stumps collected under Government of Himachal Pradesh license, held since 1995. Documented origin rather than open-market feedstock.
